    Over the past week, some of our readers have encountered an error code in the Oracle Advanced Troubleshooting Guide Part 1. There are many reasons for this problem. Now we will discuss them.

    If I can post more entries, the message type and style will be very close to the idea: diagnosing Oracle problems and troubleshooting techniques for certain operating system hardware, but we’ll touch on that. And the murders! 😉

    However, I am also a fan of systems approaches and methods. Therefore, I plan to offer some obscure OS and Oracle techniques to further reduce the guesswork with advanced Oracle troubleshooting.

  • I was working at a high level on a project where I needed to read data from a channelUnix via external table (ever wanted to load the contents of a zipped home file into Oracle on the fly? 😉

    $ mknod /tmp/tmp_pipe p

    So far so good… Unfortunately, this select statement didn’t return any results. As it turned out later, gunzip was stuck on a remote ssh link that was supposed to be passed to Unix that passed the flat file data.

    Unconsciously, I approached this potential session deadlock state, first of allturn, with obvious check – select after V$SESSION_WAIT:
